A Week With Some DMV Dining Hotspots

A Week With Some DMV Dining Hotspots

This past week I finally ventured out to a few of the DMV’s dining hot spots, and my experiences were just too good not to share with you all. My first stop was at the acclaimed Vidalia DC [http://vidaliadc.com/] in Georgetown. This place was amazing! The low-lighting and formal dining ambiance nicely complemented the exquisite wine list and broad menu options (bison, duck, pork belly, oysters – you name it). I decided to try one of the house specials that night, a small plate of yellow tail as an appetizer. For my entree, I enjoyed steak with their signature Vidalia’s baked macaroni and roasted brussel sprouts. These sides were to die for! Plus the service was excellent – very polite and prompt. It was an all-around enjoyable dining experience.

A few days later I attended the soft opening of Heavy Seas Alehouse [http://heavyseasalehouse.com/], one of Rosslyn's up-and-coming dining destinations. You can tell this place spent a pretty penny transforming its space so that you feel as if you are dining at a marina. Good news – They pulled it off! The alehouse lived up to its name, containing an enormous bar with plenty of seating. I chose to pass on the bar and sit in the dining area, and ordered a house specialty drink (appropriately named “the cannon ball”), oysters, and the rock fish, which was cooked to perfection and topped with the most delicious sauce along with two prawns. I polished off the night with an apple pie a la mode – delicious! Since it was a soft open the service was still working out a few kinks, but they had plenty of friendly staff and I am looking forward to my next visit.

My last stop for the week was to the acclaimed District Taco [http://www.districttaco.com/] for Taco Tuesday, of course! I ordered three delectable little tacos with chips and queso. It was exactly like I was back in Texas! I then proceeded to order a breakfast taco with eggs, bacon, and cheese, one taco al carbon (grilled chicken) with pico de gallo, cheese, and sour cream, and their special chicken with pineapple sour cream, and – you guessed it – a topping of cheese. By the time I left I was past the point of feeling full, but every bite was so worth it. I had been hearing great things about District Taco for several months now, and it definitely lived up to the hype.

I am thrilled to have found a few restaurants that remind me of home, Texas, especially with all of this snow and cold weather we have been having.  If you’re ever in the neighborhood of any of these restaurants I highly recommend you stop in for a bite to eat!
