Must See Exhibits At The Newseum

Must See Exhibits At The Newseum

You’re a D.C. local with friends coming in from out of town. They want to experience all of the amazing things that our beloved city has to offer, but you were just at the Lincoln Memorial two weeks ago when your relatives came to visit. What’s a great attraction for both you and your guests to enjoy? The Washington D.C. News Museum- aka the Newseum! Touted as one of the best experiences Washington D.C. has to offer, this place is perfect for all ages. Whether you’re an aspiring news anchor, history buff, tourist, or local, the seven stories of interactive exhibits that make up the museum have something to offer every visitor. So the next time you find yourself looking for somewhere to bring your company, check out the Newseum and its list of “10 Top Things to See” [].

Here’s a sneak peek at my favorite five of the ten “must-see” exhibits they recommend:

Berlin Wall Gallery:
This exhibit depicts how a tyrannical society was brought down with the help of news. Visitors can witness first-hand the largest display of original pieces of the legendary Berlin Wall, as well as a three-story guard tower that overlooked one of Berlin’s most well-known East-West crossing checkpoints.

2.  9/11 Gallery:
September 11, 2001: a day that will never be forgotten. This gallery explores the shocking events that took place on that fateful day, and the challenges that journalists faced when it came time to address the nation about what had taken place. Included in the gallery are front pages from around the world and a tribute to photojournalist Willam Biggart, who collected live coverage of the attacks but did not make it out alive.

3.  Pulitzer Prize Photographs Gallery:
The most complete collection of Pulitzer Prize-winning photographs ever assembled, right in front of your very eyes. Many of these photographs have become iconic over time (The raising of the flag at Iwo Jima, Times Square Kiss, Kent State Shooting), and helped us to define our society and the world we live in.

NBC News Interactive Newsroom:
Unleash your inner journalist and experience what it takes to be a news reporter or photographer. Touch-screen stations provide visitors with the reporting tools and techniques they need to properly execute a timely, accurate mock news report. Who knows, maybe you’ll discover that a career in journalism is your calling!

The Knight Studios:
Explore two functioning news studios right inside the Newseum!

Knight Studio

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to get a behind-the-scenes tour of a state-of-the-art television studio? Well now you can! The Knight Studio is not only used by the Newseum but other media organizations as well, and delivers news as either a recording or a live telecast.

Knight Studio on Pennsylvania Avenue
Because of its extraordinary view of the Nation’s Capital, Knight Studio on Pennsylvania Avenue is a popular location for anchors reporting D.C. news. This 1,100 square foot studio is used by both national and international media organizations, and can transmit live programs anywhere around the world.
